MSDE Tips

1. Download "MSDE 2000 Release A" from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/sql/msde/downloads/default.asp
2. During Setup, we recommend providing the "SECURITYMODE=SQL" parameter to enable SQL Authentication logins (sa by default). If the installation has already completed without this step, download the MixedMode.vbs script to enable the SQL security mode.
3. A typical installation (executed from a command line) may resemble:

   setup SAPWD="StrongPassword" SECURITYMODE=SQL

   For more information on these parameters, refer to the Microsoft documentation referenced above.
4. After the installation is complete, run the "svrnetcn" executable to verify the TCP/IP protocol is enabled.
