StoreGazer Solution - Detecting PIN Pad Removal

The 4690 logs a W404/E014/S118 message (terminal device did not respond to message on the serial port adapter) when a PIN pad is disconnected. EDJ took the following steps to configure a PIN pad disconnected email alert in our lab:

  1. Add an event to the 4690 event file (EDJGAZER:EVNTFILE.DAT) to perform an action (1) each time a message with a source of 118 occurs.
      [Rule = 1]
      Source = 118
      Action ID = 1
    To only be notified of W404 (S118) messages, a "Message = W404" line can be added to the event.

  2. Add an action to the 4690 action file (EDJGAZER:ACNTFILE.DAT) to perform an email action referencing the email template named PinpadEvent (to be defined within the StoreGazer Client).
      [Action = 1]
      Type = Email
      Template Name = PinpadEvent
  3. Define an email template in the StoreGazer Client (View -> Manage Email Templates) named PinpadEvent to send an email to one or more recipients. The "Variables -> Message Variables -> Set All to Default" menu can be used to create a default email template.

  4. Unplug the PIN pad from the terminal and confirm the W404 is displayed in the terminal event log.
