Duplicate Account Viewer Enhancement

DAVE (Duplicate Account Viewer Enhancement) is an added feature to the ESCAPE application which allows you to identify duplicate data sets. Previously, if you knew the credit card number, you could use ESCAPE to find all transactions that used that number.  Now with DAVE on your ESCAPE system, you do not even need to know one number to look for duplicates.  DAVE finds all of the duplicate account numbers for you in one search instead of repeated individual searches.  In short, DAVE saves you time and energy.

One major concern that retailers have is merchandise returns.  If the original item was purchased on a credit card, then the return amount needs to be credited to the original account.  If cashiers are performing returns to their own or friends’ credit cards for merchandise that had not been paid for, this is a source of shrink.  The primary purpose of DAVE is to examine the journal files in a specified date range and prepare a report of all account numbers that appear more than once.

The technology also can be used for a broader purpose.  A duplicate account number search is only one example of the many patterns of information that can be described and retrieved using the DAVE feature.  For example, employee sales where discounts were taken for damaged merchandise can be described and all matching employee sales displayed that involve damaged items.  The advantage of this pattern search is that the user does not have to enter a specific employee number to be matched.
